As a member of the club, you’ll notice how inexpensive it is. Costs are kept to a minimum because the club is run by its members. This includes:

  • Upkeep of the property and equipment – once or twice a year we’ll hold a working party, where gutters are cleaned, broken things are fixed, lost property is removed, woodwork is painted etc. We’ll expect you to turn up, make light of the work and enjoy that warm glow it brings – when the free cup of tea is passed to you.
  • Provision of safety – whenever sailing takes place, a safety boat must be manned. This job is supported by dedicated training each member is offered. Please take the opportunity; the training is free, fun and essential to the health of the club. Please contact Mike Bishop for details.
  • Management of racing – not all sailing involves races, but most of it does. We need members to take turns (usually two stints of Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) to run (or assist the running of) the racing. This involves turning up early enough to unlock, providing milk (you’ll be reimbursed), setting the course, recording lap times and locking up.
  • Training of members – As mentioned, safety training is available to all members. However, RYA sail training is also available (at a cost), though our instructors are volunteers.
